2022 The Bond Shiraz
With his word as his bond, many growers in the Barossa sold fruit to Peter Lehmann on a handshake agreement; many of which are still honoured today. These longstanding relationships give us unrivalled access to some of the finest quality grapes across the length and breadth of the region to craft our wines. Following a period of uncertainty, Peter Lehmann Wines was born to preserve a winemaking community and save it from detriment during the great fruit surplus of the late 1970s. The Bond is created to honour Peter and his promise.
A full-bodied Barossa Shiraz, this wine is made from premium parcels of fruit, and barrel-aged for added complexity of flavour, mouthfeel and aged character.
WINE MAKERS NOTES
Deep and bright with a crimson core and bright purple edge. Lifted satsuma plum, raspberry, violet flower, blueberry, mocha spice and a hint of lightly charred oak. The palate is abundant with pretty and vibrant blue fruits, and a rich mid palate with plum and dark cherry flavours. A long fine tannin structure throughout gives an excellent backbone and good weight to this food-friendly style of Barossa Shiraz. Firm, yet plush tannins support the finish of earthy blackberry and black olive, balanced and fresh.
The perfect accompaniment to Wagyu Rib with Stilton cheese sauce, sauteed pardon peppers with garlic and sherry vinegar.
