THE MASTER’S STORY
The Peter Lehmann Master’s wines have established a reputation for quality and winemaking expertise. Since their first release in the early 1990s, the wines have received numerous awards and accolades, with Wigan Riesling heralded as one of the most highly awarded Riesling wines in Australia.
The range celebrates the people and moments that influenced our winemaking story from the beginning. Their collective knowledge, passion, and desire to make the finest possible Barossa wines inspired the winemaking style for which this range is renowned. Through the annual release of The Master’s Collection, we honour the rich heritage of Peter Lehmann and ensure an integral part of the brand’s winemaking legacy carries into the future.
These wines represent the best of the Barossa, showcasing the region’s traditional varietals. Today, the winemaking team seeks to find a balance between ensuring the wines remain contemporary while also retaining the unique house style of Peter Lehmann.
The wines are crafted to express the benefits of time and patience and will cellar exceptionally well under the right conditions. Each year the wines are released with bottle age which provides layers of complexity; the whites with a minimum of five years, and the reds with a minimum of three.

Wigan Eden Valley Riesling
Andrew Wigan was mentored by Peter Lehmann and was at his side when the winery was founded in 1979. He was Chief Winemaker from 1980 – 2014. Peter Lehmann’s reputation for Barossa Shiraz was soon complemented by Andrew’s passion for white wines. His refinement of the whites was revolutionary and his contribution to the Peter Lehmann story was recognised in 2003 with the re-naming of the revered ‘Reserve’ Riesling as ‘Wigan’ Riesling.Tasting Notes
Margaret Lehmann is the great woman beside the great man: wife, business partner, and champion of Peter Lehmann Wines and the Barossa Valley. Peter Lehmann winemakers rewrote the rulebooks of Barossa Semillon in the early 90s, eschewing oak and opting for an early-picked style that lent itself to ageing. The result is Margaret Semillon. Released after five years cellaring, it has youthful lemongrass aromas and citrus acidity that belie its age; and complexity you would expect from an aged white with a bountiful trophy cabinet.Tasting Notes
Eight Songs Shiraz
Peter Lehmann had great passion for the arts and ‘Eight Songs for A Mad King’ was one of his favourite ensemble musical works. Inspired by its soft harmonies, Peter created a wine to show an elegant and distinctly softer side to Barossa Shiraz.Tasting Notes
Mentor Cabernet Sauvignon
Peter Lehmann, mentored countless people over his 50-year career and this wine is named in his honour. Mentor Cabernet Sauvignon is made as the best expression of vintage. By drawing fruit from a number of Barossa sub regions, it displays immense varietal definition with added complexity of fruit from low-yielding old vines matured in French oak barrels.Tasting Notes
