Our Heart and Soul
The Barossa region in South Australia is home to some of the greatest Shiraz vines in the world. The Peter Lehmann winemaking team has been making iconic Shiraz wines for over three decades.
Crafted by the next generation of Peter Lehmann winemakers, The Barossan showcases the superb fruit sourced from the many fabled sub-regions across the Barossa Valley. Lifted cherry and brooding dark fruit aromas combine seamlessly with sweet chocolate and mocha undertones to deliver an intense, generous and full bodied wine.
True to what the region has come to be known for ‘The Barossan’ is a quintessential expression of Barossa Shiraz. Drinking beautifully now with further cellaring potential.
Parcels of high quality fruit are carefully selected from across the Barossa to produce The Barossan. Our winemakers have identified varying interpretations of this classic varietal to blend together seamlessly, delivering a complex and layered wine with fruit intensity and suppleness.
A selection of the Barossa’s key growers renowned for their quality and skill, have shared their passion and pristine fruit to create this quintessential Barossa Shiraz. Each parcel speaks of the vineyard from which it comes, sharing a special and unique aspect of the sub region.
This, in combination with their experience and pursuit of perfection, has resulted in an exceptional fruit offering.
The 2015 vintage came early and was followed by a cool and dry growing season with timely rainfall at veraison. The conditions produced red wines displaying a bright, dense colour and classic varietal characteristics.

On Monday 20th June 2017, The Australian Financial Review counted down the winners of its annual restaurant awards, crowning the 100 best restaurants in Australia at a gala event held at The Star in Sydney.
Peter Lehmann was the proud wine partner for this prestigious event, which saw owners, chefs and sommeliers from Australia’s finest dining establishments come together in anticipation of a place on the list. Unlike other industry awards, these are voted upon by the top 500 chefs and restaurateurs in the country, meaning the winners are selected by their peers rather than food critics.
Guests sipped on the multi-award winning Peter Lehmann 2011 Wigan Riesling and Peter Lehmann 2015 H&V Shiraz, alongside a creative and inspired selection of canapés from The Star’s renowned fine dining residents; Black Bar and Grill, Sokyo, Balla and Momofuku Seiobo.
2017’s top honour went to Victoria’s Brae, while chef and owner Dan Hunter received further awards, including the ‘Australia’s Top Chef’ Award.

Highly respected Australian wine critic, James Halliday, has rated the 2012 Stonewell Shiraz 97/100 points, classifying it as Exceptional.
Since its release in late 2016, 2012 Peter Lehmann Stonewell Shiraz has been wowing judges and wine critics alike. Here's how some of Australia's most influential wine critics, have described the wine:
"Has retained exceptional deep crimson-purple colour; as the time perspective increases, so does the statute of the '12 vintage, and its longevity. Here an ocean of full-bodied black fruits has tides of tannins and quality oak all playing off and enhancing each other on the prodigiously long palate.”
97 Points – James Halliday, James Halliday’s Wine Companion
“This is the PL brand’s top shelf outing and therefore takes in the best picks of shiraz from the valley each year, this particularity fine vintage taking three vineyards from the southern Barossa before traditional winemaking a year in oak, and three in bottle to get to this glorious point of delivery. It’s rich with dense, dark fruits that offer highlights like dark chocolate and liquorice, mint and eucal in faint lifts, and suggestions of pepper-like spice. Will top of a big say with lasting impressions.”
4.5 Out of 5 – Tony Love, National Wine Editor, News Crop
Multi-award winning wine writer, television presenter and international speaker as well as International Wine & Spirit Communicator of the Year 2015, Tyson Stelzer awarded our 2012 Stonewell Shiraz 97 Points.
“An epic Stonewell, infused with monumental density of black plus and blackberry fruit, masterfully supported by dark chocolate oak. For all of its commanding volume, it is never broad nor heavy, pulled obediently into line by finely structured yet confidently enduring tannins of great definition. It culminates in a finish of astonishing line and length. Irresistible now, it will live confidently for two decades.”
