Last month, Peter Lehmann Wines celebrated Australia’s vibrant Asian food culture with the first of three Bedford Noodle Market events for 2018. Now in its fifth year, the Bedford Noodle Markets feature local Barossan food stalls, the symbolic Peter Lehmann Bedford trucks and our divine Peter Lehmann wines.
It’s never a dull moment at Peter Lehmann and our viticulturist Tony Marshall says vintage ‘18 is approaching quickly, largely due to increasingly warmer days and nights since the New Year.
“The growing season started well with plenty of moisture in the ground for vines to jump out and race into some growth. Flowering and fruit set was quick with mild weather and no winds. A moist Spring meant canopy growth continued nicely and Shiraz bunches started to form. Small berries and loose bunches meant lighter crops and good quality – exactly what you want to be seeing as a viticulturist.
"Crushing for the early whites has already taken place, and the rest of the Barossa whites and reds aren’t far behind. An early Easter usually means an early vintage and this year looks no different. It’s shaping up to be another great year for Peter Lehmann wines.”
The annual release of the celebrated Wigan Eden Valley Riesling is always a highly anticipated event and this year is no different. The 2013 Wigan has been quietly maturing in bottle for the past five years and according to senior winemaker Tim Dolan, it is another top drop - well worth the wait.
“When you are able to produce a wine as magnificent as the 2013 Wigan - despite somewhat difficult weather conditions - it’s an amazing achievement. The Eden Valley was up for the challenge during the 2013 vintage, producing strong Rieslings of intense lemon, lime zest and purity.
“The 2013 Wigan exhibits aromas of lime and florals. Its delicate palate features lime juice, mineral and wet stone characters, followed by a long, smooth finish.
“An avid seafood lover myself, the 2013 Wigan would be my choice to serve lightly chilled alongside fresh oysters, shell-fish or pan-fried Barramundi. However, as excited as I am to be drinking a new release, this Wigan Riesling would cellar absolutely beautifully for another 15 years. I promise it will be well worth the wait!”
