Our delicious Black Queen Sparking Shiraz was inspired by the trail blazing ‘Sparkling Burgundy’ of the 1950s – one of Australia’s unique influences to the world of wine.
Former Peter Lehmann Chief winemaker, Andrew Wigan, was attracted to the style as a young winemaker. He aspired to make a great sparkling wine from Barossa Shiraz as soon as he arrived in the region and began working with the late Peter Lehmann in the 1970s.
Black Queen is crafted using ‘Method Traditionale,’ which includes bottle fermentation and five years cellaring in the bottle on tirage. Our 2011 Vintage was crafted from low yielding Shiraz grapes sourced from the Light Pass district in the Barossa, an area that experienced a warm and stable summer and produced richly flavoured grapes of exceptional quality.
The name ‘The Black Queen’ is in honour of the Queen of Sheba, a woman of great richness, beauty and power - much like the attributes of this wine and perhaps someone special in your life this Mother’s Day!
