Which wine out of the ones you have made has the most interesting story behind it – and what is the story?
I like the story behind the Mudflat Shiraz. It holds history, tradition and a legacy that Peter Lehmann himself started back in the 1970’s of blending small portions of the aromatic Muscadelle (Tokay as it was called then) with Barossa Shiraz.
As a winemaker, what other winemaking regions have you explored if any?
Sonoma and Napa Valley in the USA, Rhone Valley in France, and in Australia the Hunter Valley, Coonawarra, Rutherglen, Sunraysia and Riverina.
Eight Songs Gallery
8 songs are a glorious suite of paintings owned by Peter and Margaret Lehmann that hang on the walls of our Cellar Door. Painted by local artist Rod Schubert, who was inspired to create the collection from watching the operatic work ‘Eight Songs for Mad King’, that was first performed in the Barossa in 1993. The paintings were incorporated into the label designs for a decade between the 1996 and 2006 vintages for our so aptly named Eight Songs Shiraz.
